A Day in The Office at Kingsbury Lawn Care

Olivia has been with us since mid-2023 and is a first point of call for customers both old and new. This post shares what a typical day looks like for Olivia working on the office side of a lawn care company...

About Me

Hi Everyone!

Before I give an insight into my day to day work at Kingsbury Lawn Care, I thought I would share a little bit of information about myself. 

-  I studied English Literature at the University of Birmingham between 2019 and 2022. Since graduating, I have had a roles in Business Support.

- I stumbled upon the job vacancy at Kingsbury Lawn Care by chance. I immediately liked the sound of the responsibilities associated with the role, and the experience that working in a small business could give me. 

- In my spare time I enjoy reading (no surprises there!), going to the gym and travelling.

- Random Fact : I can say the alphabet faster backwards than I can forwards!

A Typical Day as a Business Support Manager

Everyday is varied at Kingsbury Lawn Care! However, I will do my best to give a taste of the most common tasks I take on...

I currently work from home, and before I log on I always ensure that I have a cup of tea to hand! I then get straight into replying to any customer calls and emails that have come in since the previous evening. 

I'm available via phone and email for the rest of the day to help customers as and when they need me. For instance, I am often the first person that a new customer engages with - when someone shows an interest in using our services, I talk them through what we do as a lawn care company and answer any questions that they may have.

A large part of my role involves scheduling the daily routes that our technicians take, so this is often a task I take on mid-morning. Our customer base is constantly growing and I have to ensure that the needs of every customer is catered for. I also make sure that the schedule suits our technicians and works around any annual leave or prior commitments they might have.

By the afternoon (and following several more cups of tea), I'm ready to take on a few other jobs. Along with Jack, I also help to manage the marketing facets of Kingsbury Lawn Care. This involves creating posts for social media, reaching out to our customer base via email and writing blog posts such as this.

Furthermore, tasks relating to finance often feature in my daily work. Using both our call management software and Xero, I upload invoices and reconcile customer payments. I also place orders for new uniform and equipment should Jack or one of the technicians let me know that we need something. 

Jobs that are less frequent but are incredibly important include running payroll - although this only happens once a month, it is my responsibility to ensure that everyone is paid correctly and on time.

What I Like Most About My Role

Working within a small business has allowed me to gain experience in sales, marketing and HR. It has also helped me to further improve my customer services skills.

At Kingsbury Lawn Care, there are lots of opportunities for further training. Whenever I have some spare time of an afternoon I will get stuck into further reading or a course that relates to my job role. 

I have a keen interest in HR so this is something that I have been pursuing recently - it's satisfying to know that this both broadens my own knowledge and helps the business too! What's more, working in a close knit team is great! 

As well as being there for customers, I'm always at the end of the phone for our technicians if they need my help or just want a catch up.
